It Prevails is a five piece metalcore band from Portland, Oregon, formed in 2004.[1] They are composed of vocalist Ian Fike, guitarists Chris Tsanjoures and Jake Harris, bassist Nate Dorval, and drummer Aaron Marsh. The band draws influence from 90s Melodic Metalcore and classic rock. Bands like Shai Hulud, Twelve Tribes, Strongarm, Lifetime and Hot Water Music were on constant rotation at hangouts during their inception. A premium was placed on lyrics related to struggles of the human condition and altruistic actions. It Prevails released a four song EP (Indelible) in 2005, their debut album (The Inspiration) on April 3, 2007, and their most recent effort (Capture & Embrace) on February 17, 2009. A new EP, Findings, was released on May 25 of 2010.[2][3]

The band formed in 2004. Releasing the Indelible EP in 2005. After touring the U.S. West Coast twice in 2006, the quintet finalized their debut album, The Inspiration, which was released in 2007 through Rise Records.
In 2008 It Prevails recorded their sophomore album "Capture and Embrace" for the small independent label, Rain City Records, they teamed up with guitarist and producer Beau Burchell (of Saosin) to mix the effort, , but the band went on a hiatus period after original drummer Aaron Marsh decided to leave. They also parted ways with a guitarist under "personal reasons". Those issues caused the cancellation of their tours with Ligiea, Since The Flood, Means and Farewell To Freeway.[4] The Capture and Embrace record was not supported by any national tour, save for a brief West Coast tour in 2009 before their first European tour in August 2009.
After more line-up changes and a relocation to Colorado,[5] It Prevails announced, through their official Myspace page, the addition of guitarist Bobby Valeu and drummer Ian Clark.[6] They also announced the release of a 3-track EP, Findings, and their summer tour with Close Your Eyes. Followed up with a UK and Mainland Europe tour with Heart In Hand from the UK.
Coming back from the UK in 2010, It Prevails teamed up with Canadian up-and-coming acts Counterparts and A Sight For Sewn Eyes. This resulted in It Prevails first tour of Eastern Canada in late 2010, during which the band shot a music video for the song "Placed In My Hands." On the way home from Canada, It Prevails shot the music video for "An Anomaly" outside of Birmingham, AL. In 2011 it was revealed that original drummer, Aaron Marsh would return to the band, and that they have inked a deal with Mediaskare Records. The most recent album entitled Stroma was released on July 19, 2011. The band continues to tour on a sporadic and informal basis.
Guitarist Chris Tsanjoures got his start in a Pantera cover band fronted by "Entourage" actor Jeremy Piven. This band was called "Far Beyond Piven".
